Firstly, we always recommend purchasing a tablet that has an inbuilt GPS. For Apple iPads this is the Cellular + Wi-Fi (4G/5G) models (not the Wi-Fi only version!!). If you have a device without an inbuilt GPS, try one of the following:
The Bad ELF Flex Mini is a great device that allows multiple iPads to use a single receiver. It supports more satellite networks than the other options on this list: GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS as well as SBAS: WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS.
The Dual XGPS has also been reported as being very good by some customers.
Gamin GLO 2 GPS+GLONASS device that works very well too.
This list isn’t comprehensive and is based on customer feedback. Technically, any GPS that says it supports iOS should work with OzRunways.
Another option is an ADS-B IN Receiver that can also provide your iPad with a GPS position, so you get both ADS-B traffic on your maps and a GPS location for your iPad (a 2-in-1 device).
For example the SkyEcho 2 or Stratus 3 units.
(Note: RWY for Android does not support GPS/location over GDL90 yet, so this is an OzRunways only tip.)
